Mohinder's story

Blindness

Mohinder hails from Ooty and suffers from blindness. But that doesn’t stop him from being great at his job at Poundwise, a forex trading firm where he helps customers buy and sell currencies, and handles Western Union and overseas bank transfers.

Mohinder’s limited vision from childhood deteriorated till he experienced total blindness. He grew up as a dependent child with poor mobility, and constantly needed someone to help him with his daily chores.

“Poundwise has been great. It has given me an opportunity to prove myself. I travel to work in public transport and feel proud to have overcome my blindness.”

His big break came when he heard from a friend about an employment oriented skills training project for people with visual impairment, being conducted by Sightsavers and its local partner, Enable India. He enrolled for the course and earned his diploma in electronic communications at Enable India, not only did his mobility, confidence and life skills improve, so did his skills at using computers and mobiles. This helped him land a job at Poundwise.
